Can anyone help me with an algebraic word problem?
One basket contained only blue balls and pink balls. 30% of these balls are blue. Then 25% of the blue balls and 75% of the pink balls were removed. If 32 balls remained in the basket, how many balls were originally in the basket? Thank you!
let x = the total number of balls in the basket, where 30% are blue, so 70% are pink, 3 x = number of blue balls, 7 x = number of pink balls 25% of the blule ball is removed , 3 x - .25 (.3 x) .225 x = number of blue balls remaining 75% of the pink balls are removed, 7 x - .75 (.7 x) .175 x = number of pink balls are back in account there are 32 balls left, including both bright red balls and blue balls saw, 175 x + .225 x = 32 x = 80 balls <== answer hope it helps
