What kind of mattress pad should I get for my dorm?

My dorm bed's mattress is really uncomfortable - it's like sleeping on a hammock with springs sticking to my backside. I want a mattress pad which is fixed (which will not sink in). Possibly one that is affordable ($ 200 or less) that I can use for more than a year. Any suggestions?

My friend was in the same situation, but because he had an almost antique bed ... The second night I slept at his place and he had bought a memory foam mattress pad. The difference was incredible ... but true! So I've supposedly really great mattress ... It should be, it costs an arm and a leg. But for 3 years now (and I've only had it for 5 years), every morning when I awoke, I had lower back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain. Actually the whole night, there was always my subconcious knowledge that I have not slept well, and the discomfort would penetrate my sleep deprives me a good night's sleep. So I went out yesterday and bought the same memory foam mattress pad as my friend. I am now a big believer! I slept through the night, without feeling any pain anywhere, and when the alarm went of this morning, I had no pain anywhere. No kidding! Get yourself one of these ... and if your mattress is hanging like a hammock, so like someone else already said, and put a piece of plywood underneath to stop it. And then put the memory foam on top. You will be amazed! Oh ... almost forgot: We have both bought the mattress memory pad at Walmart. It is $ 109 Canadian (so less in the U.S.) for a queen. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but it seems to me that I remember that Having seen 49 $ + / - for a double bed size. It comes in a box and with mattresses in the linen section. Oh .. One last thing: my oldest daughter goes to university in autumn, in a dorm room, just as you are about to do. She lay down on my bed last night after I had made the bed with memory foam pillow and she loved it ... enough to ask us for one of her dorm. I swear ... one last ... My youngest daughter who is 13 going on 14 tried it ... and said that she went to bed with me. Her father could go to sleep in his bed! She wants one too. Good luck in school!
