I have to have a UDP port and a TCP port open for my P2P. Any way to secure these?
I have to have a UDP port and a TCP port open peer to peer. My P2P client that will not end without these open in the internal WinXP firewall (I do not want to use an external firewall - they do not work with P2P in my experience). Is there any way to make these ports more secure? Shields Up reports they are closed, but respond to port probes ... Thank you.
Nope. Unless you know what IP traffic will come from, you have no choice but to open them up to all IP addresses. It means that someone out there can affect your computer at these ports. As long as no unpatched vulnerabilities or backdoors in your P2P program, you should be ok. P2P is filled with trojans and other malicious programs, so be care.
