How will dye an old wooden floor affect the dog pee stains on it? I can clear-coat?
The hardwood is a honey color, and I like it. The ROOMIE want a dark stain, but I was worried about how the stain would consider the floor is 30 years old, and now tackstrip holes (known for wood filler that will absorb the stain, too?) and a wealth of old discolored dog pee stains and other defects. I do not want to bleach the rest of the floor, but I have not sanded yet, either, so we will see how well they come up. Also, the floor is not really "meeting" the wall, and there are marble tile surrounding floor, which is at least half an inch wider. I do not want to remove tiles, there are some good solutions for a way to make that look better?
1. I have not found a wood filler, yet which will take stain exactly like the surrounding wood - ignore the tack-strip holes 2nd those pee stains will be about 69,000 times more visible when stained - sanded down to fresh wood will be your best bet, buuut ... Then you need to make it uniform throughout: (um maybe there is a solvent found a place that will attack old urine .... as for the place where tile protrudes longer is it ugly? just a blunt edge of the tile sticking up 1 / 2 "? maybe some small quarter-round, colored like the floor, or maybe some nicer type casting?
