Crib Changing
What methods have helped you keep your baby when he / she has learned to crawl out of crib?
My two year old just started climbing out of crib, and I want to change his crib to a toddler bed Tonite, but I wanted to know from parents how they kept the boy in bed nap and bedtime? What methods worked w / your kids? Thank you!
I could not disagree more with mochachreme! Pediatrics all agree that the crib to bed transition can occur anytime up to 3 years! I think a lot of mother's pushing the bed too early myself. But when your child begins to show signs of readiness (like climbing out of crib) then it is time for the baby .... each child is different and on a different schedule. That being said, we just moved our son into a double bed recently. He is 2 and we have another child due in December, so I need the crib. I must say, he would still be in the bay, were it not for the new baby! We started by making a large part of his "big boy" bed. He went with us to take it out, we talked about it while we waited for it to be delivered, when he helped to put plates on .... Basically, non-stop talk about it and he was very enthusiastic. Then began the NAPs, which was a total disaster! He held jump, jump down, run around. I stopped to put him back in, and in my no-nonsense voice told him to sleep .... we did this for a week and it was not working. So we changed to lurk in the crib and big boy bed at night. The first 4 nights, I slept in the next room and I had to hold him down to bed early, but when he was just tired and began to stay. It took just to be consistent and let him know that it was not play time. I also asked about methods, and there really is not a magic way ... just be consistent! It also helped not a top sheet or pillow ... introduce them later. Good luck!
